My starter is not rising after 4 1/2 weeks. The only rising I'm seeing is in the oven. The second problem is that the dough is too sticky and difficult to form into loaves. Thanks.

When you're talking about the loaves being difficult to form, which type of bread are you trying to make? The Batter Bread recipe in the Beginner's section has a high water-to flour ratio, so will be sticky, and requires the help of a pan to keep its shape.

We are actually using the advanced breads. They are too sticky to use a lame. She has left them sticky. I have added more flour which makes it easy to use the lame but then the bread is very heavy. Thanks.

I should tell you that we have tried the 8 ox jar test where one goes in the refrigerator and one other in a warm place. However both wind up the same height. Thanks.
